"It is A-okay to be fully supportive of breastfeeding in public, yet you yourself feel more comfortable not nursing in public."

Thanks for the post! I am much more comfortable NIP the second time around. We're still working on our technique as I'm using a mei-tai wrap rather than my sling since this guy is a bit bigger and hard on my back. I love the target nursing tanks - makes things quite easy!

I was initially really nervous about public nursing and very careful to cover up (light baby blanket over me and baby). But then the older women at my synagogue told me to stop covering the baby. "He'll never eat," they said, "He'll just fall asleep, and he can't breath." So I stopped covering us up. They were right. Our nursing relationship improved immediately, as did my confidence. Hey, if I don't have to hide nursing during services, I feel no obligation anywhere else! :D

I could have written your "what has worked for me" section, except I don't think I cover myself before he latches on - his head usually does the job. I agree that it helps to be more confident - many people just won't mess with a confident woman!
