Coconut Oil

One Gallon of Coconut Oil

What do you use coconut oil for? I use it for everything. After studying the works of Weston A Price and learning how saturated fat, in fact, does not make populations ill or die, I have really been enjoying the health benefits of coconut oil!  I love using it to cook with and adding it to my food so that I don’t get hungry so quickly. This is a picture of my gallon bucket of coconut oil that I got it in mid-October. It’s now mid-November and half gone.

We’re rarely using butter right now since my little one is dairy free, so I use this to cook eggs in, over squash instead of butter, to saute veggies in for stir fry, and in my baking a lot of the time. I’ve also switched from using olive oil in things that will be heated, so I’m using this in hubby’s bread and pizza dough and stuff, where before I used olive oil.

I stir a teaspoon or two in my coffee in the morning, and I feel like it helps prevent the blood sugar dip that coffee had given me in the past. A couple tablespoons added to your smoothie will keep you satisfied for hours, like a meal.

What I use coconut oil for:

  1. Sauteeing
  2. To stir in coffee
  3. Dairy free version of scrambled eggs
  4. In veggie lentil burgers
  5. In bread, cookies, muffins, and other baked goods
  6. In smoothies
  7. To fry things like tortilla chips, fried chicken, or pancakes
  8. I use coconut oil to grease muffin tins
  9. Or drop 1/8 tsp or so of coconut oil in a paper liner to make muffins easy to remove
  10. Mix with beeswax for an easy all purpose salve!
  11. For weight loss! Read more about this in the book Eat Fat Lose Fat at Cultures for Health.

Where I buy coconut oil; great quality for a great price:

I buy all my coconut oil (and palm oil and coconut products) from Tropical Traditions. If you’re a first time customer, use referral code #5682145 to get a free book on the benefits of coconut oil!  Tropical Traditions has both organic and non-certified organic (I get the noncertified organic because I really trust the company and don’t need the certification).  I use the raw virgin gold label in smoothies and wherever I’m going to eat it raw, and the expellar pressed when it’s going to be cooked.

  1. The first question that’s generally asked is whether or not coconut oil is harmless to use. Manufacturers of other oils have long attempted to smear coconut oil as a bad oil due to the fact it’s largely made up of saturated fats. Aren’t those the poor fats? In many cases they are, but in the case of coconut oil their makeup is extremely several from many other oils. Coconut oil is primarily comprised of medium chain fatty acids which can be wholesome. Most other saturated fats can’t say this. The stability saturated fats helps make sure that coconut oil will not break down into trans fatty acids and free radicals when exposed to higher heat.

Which of these do you use in your salve: I use the raw virgin gold label in smoothies and wherever I’m going to eat it raw, and the expellar pressed when it’s going to be cooked?

I’ve also heard of people using coconut oil with the oil-cleansing method as a facial cleanser & moisturizer, as well as to make home-made deodorant, do you know which version would be better for skin with these uses?

Lastly: does the coconut oil leave any coconut taste when its cooked? I love coconut but my hubby doesn’t — so I’m curious if my scrambled eggs would taste coconut-y if I used this for cooking, lol!

I’m dying to try out the coconut oil once I run out of my current supplies!
